The GBYOA Mission Statement
The mission of the Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestra Association is to:
- provide high-quality orchestral training and performance opportunities for talented young musicians;
- create an environment in which students learn from music professionals and from one another; and
- foster a greater appreciation for classical music in the students and their audience.
The goals of the GBYO Association to realize its mission are to:
- BRING TOGETHER talented young musicians from across the region to rehearse and perform together under inspiring leadership;
- MAINTAIN a forum for students to experience various aspects of professional performance;
- EXPOSE students to diverse literature from the great symphonic repertoire;
- EXPAND students' cultural understanding through national and international exchanges and travel;
- ENCOURAGE a sense of personal responsibility and self-dicipline in each student;
- DEVELOP performers and audiences for the future;
- ENRICH and foster school music programs;
- PERFORM high-quality symphonic music for the general public at a reasonable cost, or at no cost;
- REACH audiences for whom performances of classical music are rare; and
- PROVIDE these OPPORTUNITIES without regard to race, cultural background, gender, or creed.
